CELEBRATIONS!
Jim John’s SWING SHIFT BIG BAND with Strings
Featuring Larisa Renée and Dave Statham with special guest,
multi-award winner Jackie Richardson
Release Date: May 1st, 2021
"As we enter Swing Shift's 25th year, we Celebrate the musical contributions of band mates. We chose [a variety of tunes for this album], from the lush ballad 'Here's to Life', to the breezy 'Summer Samba', to the barn burner 'Let the Good Times Roll'. It's been an honour and a privilege to be part of this musical enterprise." – Rob Williams, lead trombone, Swing Shift Big Band
This 6-track EP-CD relies heavily on the arranging skills of Brent Turner, whose charts are tailored to the band’s strengths: clean section work and impressive vocals by Larisa and Dave. Musical Director saxophonist Jeff Pighin ensures that the band’s tonal palette is tuned up to its optimum level. And Celebrations! also introduces a new and sensuous dimension to the Swing Shift sound – strings … an exciting first for the band!
Not to be missed is the wonderful Artie Butler anthem, 'Here's to Life' recorded by the incredible Jackie Richardson - a video of her deeply moving performance is available as a special bonus on our Celebrations! page. “One of Canada’s foremost singers of gospel, blues and jazz, who has performed across the country and internationally, Jackie Richardson is also an award-winning actor who received a Gemini Award for her performance in The Gospel According to the Blues.” – CBC Media Centre
Celebrations! was expertly engineered by Humber's Andy Pryde and produced by Palais Records.
